On March 25, 2021, Joseph Vandergift, a student from Wellsboro Area High School, was presented with NTIEC's Outstanding School-to-Work (STW) Award along with a scholarship.
Through NTIEC’s STW program, Joseph is able to work part-time at Owlett’s, a feed and supply store in Wellsboro, PA. Carrie Bradley, NTIEC’s western region educational coordinator, was able to present Joseph with his check in person at Owlett’s!
On the STW program, Joseph said, “Working with the public all the time has given me more communication skills and it has opened my eyes to a lot more things I wouldn’t have gotten to see anywhere else.”
Craig Owlett, the business owner and operations manager, also had something to say about NTIEC’s STW program.
“School-to-work has helped (Owlett’s) by bringing in an extra hand and giving (Joseph) a chance to learn what we do while we do it. I don’t think STW is used nearly enough and I encourage any other business to participate. It’s very valuable to the student and the business.”
A big thank you to Craig and Owlett’s and a huge congratulations to Joseph on a job well done! NTIEC couldn’t do what we do for our community if not for supportive businesses like Owlett’s and driven students like Joseph!
